SID Ambassador Training Day 2025
Over 100 students from schools across Ireland recently gathered for the Safer Internet Day (SID) Ambassador Training Day at Google HQ in Dublin. The event was part of the Webwise peer-led initiative, which empowers students with the knowledge and skills to run their own online safety campaigns in their schools and local communities. During the in-person training, students received valuable guidance and support from the Webwise Youth Advisory Panel.

The Ambassador Training Programme enables students to take an active role in creating a safer, better internet by addressing key issues such as online bullying, misinformation, wellbeing, privacy, and digital rights.

A special guest panel discussion featured Content Creator Jim Flano, Professor Aphra Kerr, and Webwise Youth Panelist Mae, offering insights on the theme “Prepare / Protect / Thrive: Navigating Algorithms and Influencers.” This discussion gave students the chance to ask questions and explore the impact of algorithms and influencers on young people’s online lives.
Safer Internet Day 2025 will take place on Tuesday, February 11th, with this year’s campaign focusing on how algorithms and influencers shape young people’s online experiences. The goal is to equip children with the skills to navigate the opportunities and challenges posed by these powerful online forces.
SID is a Europe-wide initiative promoting a safer internet for all, particularly for young people. In Ireland, it is supported by Oide Technology in Education and Webwise, with over 200,000 people participating in last year’s celebrations.
